Data Protection Act
1998:
The 1998 Data Protection Act applies to
personal data in computerized, manual or any other format so long as the data
is in a system that allows the information to be readily accessible. The Act requires transparency in
the use of information and emphasizes the need for privacy and access by
individuals.
Anyone collecting data will have to ask
themselves why it is being collected, how it is going to be used and who will
have access to it.

1 processed fairly and lawfully
2. processed for limited purposes of the SLCM
3. adequate, relevant and not excessive
4. accurate
5. not kept for longer than is necessary
6. processed in line with data subjects' rights
7. kept secure
